    EUA e mais 7 países pedem condenação da China na ONU por ‘genocídio’

    Com o apoio de Reino Unido, Canadá, Suécia, Dinamarca, Finlândia, Islândia e Noruega, os Estados Unidos protocolaram nesta segunda-feira, 26, um projeto de resolução no Conselho de Direitos Humanos da Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU) pedindo punição da China pela prática de crimes contra a humanidade na Província de Xinjiang.

    Um relatório divulgado em 31 de agosto, do Escritório do Alto-Comissariado da ONU para os Direitos Humanos, constatou graves violações de direitos humanos contra a minoria uigur, muçulmanos que são perseguidos e presos pelo regime comunista chinês. Logo em seguida, os Estados Unidos pediram punições para a China.

    Agora, conforme o projeto de resolução, os oito países querem que a acusação contra a China seja debatida na 52ª sessão do Conselho, que deve ocorrer no primeiro trimestre do ano que vem.

    Esta é a primeira vez na história do Conselho de Direitos Humanos, criado em 2006, que um projeto de resolução tem como alvo a China. O documento será submetido à votação dos 47 Estados membros do Conselho no começo de outubro. Se aprovado, seguirá para debate na 52ª sessão do Conselho.

    Por vários anos, a China foi acusada por países ocidentais e organizações de direitos humanos de ter encarcerado em Xinjiang mais de 1 milhão de uigures e outros membros de minorias muçulmanas. No relatório, de agosto, o Alto-Comissariado não fala em genocídio, mas em crimes contra a humanidade, relata casos de tortura, violência sexual, esterilização e abortos forçados e destruição de mesquitas.

    O documento sustenta que a China levou cerca de 1 milhão de uigures e outros grupos minoritários para campos de internamento, locais que chamou de centros de treinamento. Alguns dos centros já foram fechados, mas acredita-se que ainda existam centenas de milhares encarcerados. Em várias centenas de casos, as famílias não tinham ideia do destino dos parentes que foram detidos.

    O Partido Comunista Chinês rejeitou com veemência essas acusações e criticou o relatório, acusando a ONU de se tornar “assecla e cúmplice dos Estados Unidos e do Ocidente”. Em 9 de setembro, o embaixador da China na ONU em Genebra disse que o governo chinês não iria mais cooperar com o Escritório de Direitos Humanos, que “fechou a porta da cooperação” ao divulgar o relatório, que classificou como “ilegal e inválido”.
